Elena Toncheva (b. 1933), Dr., Prof., (Mediaeval Eastern chant and music Bysantology), Director of The Institute of Art Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Herder Award (1998), membership in the Study group "Cantus Planus" at IMS (The International Musicological Society), the Editorial Board "Musica Antiqua Europae Orientalis", chair of the Musicology Section at the Union of the Bulgarian Composers, member of the Board for music and musicology at High Testimonial Committee, lecturer at NBU, lectures in European and USA universities, member of the editorial board of the journal "Bulgarsko muzikoznanie".
